Actress Mayim Bialik Hospitalized

Star of "The Big Bang Theory" and "Blossom," Mayim Bialik was hospitalized on Wednesday, August 14, due to a car accident in Los Angeles.

Biyalik has sustained serious injuries to her hand. Her left thumb was reported to be almost completely severed; however, she has reported that she will in fact keep all her fingers. "
([H]usband typing) In pain but will keep all my fingers," tweeted Bialik.

The collision occurred after Bialik had just left a table reading for "The Big Bang Theory" and was on her way to a family dinner for her youngest son's birthday party. Her rep released a statement indicating
“she is doing fine and will be returning to work tomorrow. She thanks everyone for their concern.”

A vehicle full of tourists from Chile hit her white Volvo in an intersection
on the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and La Brea at approximately 12 p.m. The 36-year-old actress was rushed to a nearby hospital where she is being treated. The three people in the other vehicle obtained minor injuries and were able to leave the scene on their own.

Bialik signed on for the FOX pilot "Molloy" as well as the NBC sitcom "Blossom" in 1990. "Molloy" didn't continue to air after its six episode trial run but "Blossom" received high enough ratings that it continued to air until 1995.

From 1995 to 2005, Bialik did mainly voice-over work for cartoons such as "The Real Adventures of Johnny Quest" and "Recess." She did a number of guest roles on shows like "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and "The Secret Life of the American Teenager."

It wasn't until 2009 that she joined "The Big Bang Theory" for the show's season three finale as Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler. She became a part of the main cast by season four and her role earned her a 2012 "Emmy" nomination for Outstanding
Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.
