Green Day's latest studio album "Uno" drops on Sep. 25.
LAS VEGAS—After an explicit rant during the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas, the lead singer of Green Day checked himself into treatment for substance abuse.
On Friday, September 21, punk rock band Green Day was asked to cut their set in order to make enough time for the other acts, as the show was going into overtime. Lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong did not react positively when he noticed a one-minute warning in the back of the arena.
Green Day took
the stage approximately 30 minutes late and cut short their performance
of their 1994 hit "Basket Case" when Armstrong said he wanted to play a
new song. He never got a chance to because he saw the digital ticker that
stated the band had to finish up their set in the next minute.
After noticing the time limit, Armstrong proceeded to drop over twenty F-bombs in the minute and a half-long rant. "Give me a ... break," Armstrong shouted. "One minute left. One minute
... left. You're gonna give me ... one minute? Look at that ... sign
right there. One minute. Let me ... tell you something. Let me tell you
something. I've been around since ... 1980 ... 8 and you're going to
give me one ... minute? You gotta be ... kidding me ... I'm not ... Justin Bieber." He then destroyed his guitar and stormed off stage with his band members in tow. Bieber did not actually perform at the event. However, his mentor Usher had performed on stage before Green Day.
Green Day's rep, Brian Bumbery, released a statement on the band's official site on Sunday, Spetember 23. "Green Day would like everyone to know that their set was not cut short
by Clear Channel and to apologize to those they offended at the
iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas," said the statement. "The band regretfully must postpone some of their upcoming promotional appearances."
The iHeartRadio Twitter page described their appearance as "monumental" and posted on their site that the performance was "one of the most epic, punk rock sets in recent history." The video of the 40-year-old punk rock star went viral on the internet over the weekend and received wide-spread coverage.
The band's latest studio album, "Uno," is set to release on Tuesday, September 25. The band begins their nationwide tour on November 26, and Armstrong has also been signed to be a mentor on NBC's "The Voice."
