"I had an incredible time doing the show and I love the other judges and I am so proud of my teens but it's time for me to get back in the studio," Spears said in a statement. "Watching them all do their thing up on that stage every week made me miss performing so much!  I can't wait to get back out there and do what I love most."

Rumors circulated on Thursday indicating Spears would not be returning to the show due to her inability to raise its ratings and many had poor reviews for the panelists. The 31-year-old reportedly received $15 million for one season on the show.

Antonio "L.A." Reid has also stated he will not be returning as a judge on the show as he he wants to focus his time on his recording company, Epic Records.

FOX has been informed of Spears' decision, according to a statement made Friday by her publicist Jeff Raymond, but the network has yet to make an official statement regarding her departure.

"I thought it went very well," said Fox Entertainment Chairman Kevin Reilly at a TV press tour. "People are fascinated with her and always will be. She’s just an interesting figure who’s lived a unique life, and I thought she brought some of that. And people got to know her a little bit."

"Maybe some people were waiting for more drastic displays ”“ those did not happen," Reilly continued. "The ratings were higher last year, but I think the show was better [this season]. She fit in on that panel nicely."

Simon Cowell and fellow producers are discussing who will replace Spears and Reid. Demi Lovato is expected to return as a judge along with Cowell.
