Broadway Star Julie Harris Dies

NEW YORK—Actress and Broadway star Julie Harris died at the age of 87 on Saturday, August 24, at her home in West Chatham, Massachusetts. The cause of death was congestive heart failure.


Harris has been in many plays including “I Am a Camera” and “The Gin Game.” In addition, the actress has also appeared in films like “East of Eden” and “Reflections in a Golden Eye.” She earned 10 Tony nominations and won five for best actress.


She was also given a sixth award: a special lifetime achievement Tony Award in 2002. The actress also received an Academy Award nomination during her career. Harris has often been referred to as “the first lady of the American theater.”
