HOLLYWOOD—On Tuesday, July 5, just hours after being acquitted for the murder of her 2-year-old daughter Caylee Anthony, L.A.-based adult film company Vivid Entertainment made an offer to Casey Anthony through her Florida criminal defense attorney Jose Baez for his client to make an adult-rated film.
By the next afternoon, Vivid Entertainment President Steven Hirsch said that the offer to Casey Anthony was rescinded by his company. In a shocking twist, the offer to Anthony, who is considered one of the most hated women on the planet, outraged his adult film fans and customers to the point that he had to change his plans to possibly negotiate a deal. “We were ready to make an offer to Casey to star in one of our feature films. It’s clear to me now, however, that there has been an overwhelmingly negative response to our offer and so we’ve decided to withdraw it,” Hirsch told TMZ on Thursday.
Casey Anthony is facing several possible lawsuits resulting from her case. One is for defamation of character by a woman named Zenaida Gonzalez, Another is for costs that some companies incurred while searching for 2 year-old Caylee, who Anthony reported missing. Anthony also reportedly owes the U.S. Treasury (IRS) over $70,000 for unpaid taxes from 2008 after selling photographs and videos of her daughter Caylee for over $250,000 to media outlets including ABC News. Anthony faced a first degree murder charge and was acquitted, but she was only convicted on four misdemeanor charges of lying to authorities, who were searching for her daughter Caylee. Anthony admitted at trial through her defense attorney that Caylee had drowned on June 16, 2008.
An entertainment insider with a major talent agency in Hollywood tells Canyon News, “There is no interest in Casey Anthony in the mainstream entertainment industry, and I’m not surprised that the offer she received from that adult movie company was rescinded as well. Sure, she’s been found not guilty, and she’ll probably receive some book deal and offers for interviews, but she’s not someone that has the option of going mainstream at this point. Even though found not guilty, she is still looked at with the cloud of suspicion hanging over her head, and although Americans are forgiving, there is no network or studio in this town which wants to face a backlash from viewers at this time. We are struggling enough.”
However, on Thursday, rumors of a package deal signing between a major talent agency and Casey Anthony and her attorney was being discussed on cable television.
There is no evidence that Casey Anthony or her attorney Jose Baez were even interested in or considered the adult film offer. Anthony’s defense attorney did not return calls by press time for a comment.
