Clint Eastwood's Home Swatted

LOS ANGELES—Actor Clint Eastwood has become a part of a long list of celebrity swatting victims due to fake calls to the police.

Swatting is a term that refers to a hoax emergency being reported to authorities in order to have a SWAT team arrive at the scene. Many of the recent fake emergencies are reported via a TTY device which is usually used by the deaf to type text over the telephone.

Multiple units arrived at Eastwood's home in Los Angeles after receiving a 911 call reporting multiple males armed with assault weapons were inside the residence and people had been injured. Officers arrived at the scene when it was realized that nothing was amiss. It is undetermined whether or not anyone was home at the time of the prank.

Various celebrities that have had their homes swatted in recent months include Ashton Kutcher, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Simon Cowell, Tom Cruise, Kim Kardashian and Chris Brown.

A 12-year-old boy was charged on February 7 for the swatting incident that occurred at Kutcher's home and at a Wells Fargo bank last October. The suspect, whose name has not been released due to his age, was not arrested until December.

LAPD officers are attempting to find a way to determine a hoax call more quickly as it "drains vital resources from law enforcement and puts officers and citizens into dangerous situations," according to Democratic Senator Ted Lieu of Torrance.
