BEL AIR—The “Girls Gone Wild” creator has been sentenced following a conviction in May in connection to a 2011 incident involving three women. Joe Francis, 40, faces a sentence of 270 days in prison, 36 months of probation and anger management classes.
On May 6, Francis was convicted of five misdemeanor charges following a two-week trial. He was charged with one count of assault causing great bodily injuries, three counts of false imprisonment, and one count of dissuading a witness from reporting a crime.
Prosecutors say that Francis met three women on January 29, 2011, at a college graduation party at the Supper Club in
After the hearing, Francis was taken into custody at the Airport Branch Courthouse. According to Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Nancy L. Newman, Francis must complete an anger management course and attend 52 sessions of psychological counseling.
The judge also set a $250,000 bail. Francis has filed an appeal and requested a new trial. Once bail is posted, Francis is allowed to be free until the outcome of the appeal dictates what will occur next. While being sentenced, the series creator remained silent.
The media mogul has been vocal about the trial before. In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter in May, Francis told interviewer Stephen Galloway, “I want that jury to know that each and every one of you are mentally f—ing retarded and you should be euthanized because, as Darwin said, you have naturally selected yourself.”
He later apologized for his outburst.
