John Ingle Dead At 84
Posted by Ivetta Babadjanian on Sep 18, 2012 - 5:08:11 PM

HOLLYWOOD—Actor John Ingle, most known for his role on "General Hospital," died of cancer at the age of 84 on Sunday, September 16, in Los Angeles.

His family released a statement via Facebook stating, ""Father, Husband, Grandad, Great Grandad, Brother, Uncle, Friend, Teacher, Inspirer, Mentor: May You Soar with the Angels. You will forever hold a special place in the deepest corners of our hearts. You were joy, light and love. Goodness at its very best. For the rest of our days, we will all do our best to continue to make you proud. Rest in peace and continue to spread your generous spirit in the heavens above. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts."

"We love him and will miss him. John will always be part of the #GH family." tweeted Frank Valentini, the executive producer of "General Hospital."

Ingle was born on May 7, 1928, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and moved to Tujunga, California, with his family when he was a teenager. He graduated from Occidental College in 1950 with a degree in theater. He married his wife four years later, Grace-Lynn Martin, and together they raised five daughters.

For many years, before Ingle became a professional actor, he was a drama teacher at Hollywood High School, Beverly Hills High School, Occidental College, Los Angeles City College, and UCLA. His more famous students included Richard Dreyfuss, Nicholas Cage, Albert Brooks, Barbara Hershey, and David Schwimmer.

Ingle made his final appearance on the ABC soap opera last week reprising his role as businessman Edward Quartermaine, a character that he has played on the show since 1993. Ingle also played in the soap opera "Days of Our Lives" during a two year break from "General Hospital" which began in 2004.

His credited works include television shows such as "Big Love," The Drew Carey Show," "Night Court," and "The Super Chase," and films such as "Death Becomes Her" and "Heathers."

Igle's wife of 57 years died in February. They are survived by five daughters, nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
