Seth MacFarlane To Host Oscars

HOLLYWOOD—Creator of "Family Guy" and "American Dad!," Seth MacFarlane, has been chosen to be the host of the 2013 Academy Awards. The announcement was made on Monday, October 1 by Oscars' producers Craig Zaden and Neil Meron.

"His performing skills blend perfectly with our ideas for making the show entertaining and fresh," said Zadan and Meron in the official statement. "He will be the consummate host, and we are so happy to be working with him."

This will be MacFarlane's first time hosting the award ceremony. "It's truly an overwhelming privilege to be asked to host the Oscars," MacFarlane said in a statement.

"My thoughts upon hearing the news were, one, I will do my utmost to live up to the high standards set forth by my predecessors; and two, I hope they don't find out I hosted the Charlie Sheen Roast."
On Monday, MacFarlane also tweeted, "Very excited about the big news!" along with a link to a funny promotional clip for the Oscars.

MacFarlane, 38, is the creator, writer and primary voice talent for "Family Guy," which is now in its 11th season. He has won several awards for his work on the show including two Primetime Emmy Awards and an Annie Award.

The comedian also has a background in music as he plays the piano and works with an orchestra and composers on a weekly basis to score his three animated shows. MacFarlane received a number of Grammy nominations for his debut album, "Music Is Better Than Words." He has performed to sold out concerts at Carnegie Hall and London's Royal Albert Hall.

MacFarlane's also divulged in directing with his first feature-length comedy film "Ted" starring Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis. MacFarlane provided the voice and motion capture for the character of the bear, Ted.

The nominations for the 85th Academy Awards will be announced on January 10 and the actual ceremony will take place on February 24 at the Dolby Theater in the Hollywood and Highland Center.
