LOS ANGELES—Although it is still early in the season, the Stanford Cardinals have seemingly killed the USC Trojans' hopes of winning a National Title as Stanford defeated USC 21-14 Saturday in Palo Alto.

The win was Stanford's fourth consecutive against the Trojans, leaving Senior quarterback Matt Barkley winless against the Cardinals.

Stanford was able to keep Southern Cal offense at bay, allowing only 26 rushing yards and 280 total yards. Matt Barkley was only able to complete 20 of 41 passes and threw 2 interceptions and 0 touchdowns.

On offense, Stanford's senior running back Stepfan Taylor carried the ball 27 times for 153 yards and a touchdown and caught 5 passes for 60 yards and a touchdown, which came just before the fourth quarter started and knotted the game at 14-14.

With 10:20 left in the game, Stanford quarterback Josh Nunes found Zach Erts for a 37-yard touchdown completion that would be the difference in the game.

USC dropped 11 spots in the AP Poll from #2 to #13, while Stanford jumped from #21 to #9.

With games against #22 Arizona, #3 Oregon, #19 UCLA, and #11 Notre Dame still left on the Trojans schedule, USC will need to play near flawless football if they hope to win a National Title.

USC will host Cal at 3:00 on Saturday.
