Notable NFL Roster Cuts
Posted by Eric Lemus on Aug 27, 2012 - 1:30:47 PM

LOS ANGELES—Monday afternoon was the NFL's deadline for teams to reduce their rosters to 75 men. Because final cuts will reduce the rosters to 53 men, not many surprises are expected during these cuts. However, a few big names were let go, some a bit more shocking than others.

When Terrell Owens announced he would sign with the Seattle Seahawks, few thought he had much left in his NFL career. However, Seattle's lack of playmakers at the wide out position gave T.O. a decent shot at making the team.

Unfortunately, Owens' stay with Seattle was short-lived. Sunday, T.O. hit the twitter wire to let his followers--and the world--know.

Sunday also saw the Baltimore Ravens cut former pro bowl kicker Billy Cundiff. After making the NFL's version of the All-Star Game in 2010, Cundiff was rewarded by the Ravens with a 5-year, $14.7 million contract. Cundiff's postseason short-comings, however, have led to the Ravens letting him go.

The biggest story from the deadline comes from Buffalo, where the Bills let go of quarterback Vince Young. Young is infamous in Los Angeles as the man who single-handedly led the University of Texas Longhorns to a 2005 Rose Bowl victory over the USC Trojans.

Young also went on twitter to break the news.

Drafted #3 overall in the 2006 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans, Young's unique talents led him to a starters role and a pro bowl in his rookie campaign. Without the typical quarterback skill sets that scouts look for, Young managed to continue winning games and even made another pro bowl in 2009.

Yet in his final year with the Titans (2009), and his subsequent years with the Philadelphia Eagles (2011) and the Buffalo Bills (2012), Young's inability to command the position had caused him wins.

Having not started in over two years, it is hard to see any team giving Young another shot to make a team. There may be a team out there that will need the services of a veteran quarterback, however, and this will not be the last we see of Vince Young.
