EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ—The Southern California Trojans did not take kindly to being dropped from #1 to #2 in the AP Poll after a 39-point win in week 1. Their response? The Trojans traveled to New Jersey and beat the Syracuse Orange 42-29.
Silas Redd, RB.
Last week, Marqise Lee dazzled on the field. This week, Lee only totaled 66 receiving yards, but was able to get in the end zone three times. His partner in crime, Robert Woods, led the team with 93 yards receiving while scoring twice.
The constant? Matt Barkley. Although the yardage seemed pedestrian at only 187 yards, Barkley threw for six touchdowns against just one interception. The Heisman front-runner now has 10 touchdowns and one interception in two games, while throwing for 559 yards and completing 67.6% of his passes.
The story of this game, however, was USC's improved rushing attack. After gaining only 81 yards in the Trojan's season-opener against Hawai'i, SC was able to moved the ball at will on the ground against Syracuse.
Penn State transfer Silas Redd led the Trojans with 107 yards en route to a 258 yard rushing total for Southern Cal.
The Trojans will face an opponent on a completely different level than Hawaii and Syracuse on Saturday as they will face off against the #21 Stanford Cardinal in Palo Alto, opening Pac-12 play.
