HOUSTON, TX—The UCLA Bruins football team put up some gaudy numbers as they rolled the Rice Owls 49-24 Thursday night in Houston.

On his first snap as UCLA quarterback, redshirt freshman Brett Hundley ran for a 72-yard touchdown. Hundley also threw for 202 yards and 2 touchdowns and an interception while connecting on 21 of 28 passes.

Star running back Jonathan Franklin ran for 214 yards on 15 carries and 3 touchdowns.

UCLA went up 19-0 with 8:28 still remaining in the first quarter. Rice would climb back in the game, and two minutes into the second quarter UCLA led 19-17. After each team saw the end zone a few more times, the score stood at 29-24 in favor of the Bruins until a 44-yards fumble return for a touchdown put UCLA up 35-24 with only 17 seconds left in the first half.

Rice would never again see the endzone, and the Bruins added two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to send UCLA to 1-0 for the first time in two years.

UCLA heads back to campus to play their home opener against the #17 Nebraska Cornhuskers September 8 at the Rose Bowl.
