HOLLYWOOD—On April 20, 21-year-old Dmitriy Sheyko was charged to 19 felony counts including breaking into and burglarizing residences, setting structures on fire, burglary, arson and use of a destructive device for incidents that occurred on April 14 and 17.
Sheyko is accused of setting fire to a classroom in a Hollywood synagogue as well as breaking into several structures and setting fires at each location, except one, including the Temple Israel of Hollywood, according to a statement made by the District Attorney’s Office.
LAFD officials were called to the Temple Israel of Hollywood at 7300 Hollywood Blvd. on April 14 at 8:43 a.m. to commence a post-fire investigation. The LAFD website described the damages to the building as minimal and the fire was put out before LAFD officials arrived.
According to a press release issued by the District Attorney’s Office, Sheyko also “allegedly burglarized and set fire to several residences in the community of Beverly Ridge Terrace where he purportedly used Molotov cocktails in two of the homes as well as to destroy a flatbed truck.”
The suspect is also charged for alleged intentional fires in Hollywood Hills.
If convicted, Sheyko faces a maximum sentence of 21 years in prison. His bail is set at $3 million.
Deputy District Attorney Sean Carney of the Arson Section said in a press release that Sheyko is expected to be arraigned at the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.
Anyone with information about Sheyko being tied to another crime is encouraged to contact Arson Investigators at the Los Angeles Fire Department/Counter-Terrorism Section at 213-485-6095.
