Backstreet Boys Earn Star On Walk Of Fame
Posted by Kyle Maloney on Apr 23, 2013 - 1:06:14 AM

HOLLYWOOD HILLS—The 2,495th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame went to popular 1990’s boy band, the Backstreet Boys, on Monday, April 22, marking their 20th anniversary and upcoming world tour.

A ceremony honoring the boy band’s newly-granted star was held late Monday morning in front of the Live Nation Building on Hollywood Boulevard. “Definitely I can say a dream has come true,” said band member Howie Dorough at the ceremony. “We’ve made a mark in history.”

The band’s five members appeared deeply moved as they thanked their families and fans for all the years of support.

Kevin Richardson, 40, choked back tears as he told supporters “what an honor” it was to receive such recognition. “What a beautiful day. What another beautiful way to celebrate 20 years together,” he said.

“Backstreet is back,” said Nick Carter, 33. “And we aren’t going anywhere.” The band originated in Orlando, Florida in 1993, and to date they have sold over 130 million albums worldwide. The group ”˜s members include Kevin Richardson, Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell and A.J. McLean.

“Other than my wedding day and the birth of my daughter, this is the best day of my life,” said McLean. He went on the thank fans for allowing him to “fulfill a dream that I never thought was possible for 20 amazing years.”

Richardson made a brief departure from Backstreet in 2006 to pursue a career in acting. In 2012, he reunited with the band permanently. The Backstreet Boys are expected to release a new album this summer and launch a world tour in May, beginning in Beijing, China. In 2014, a music documentary is scheduled to be released.
