The 24 year-old entertainer, who was driving a Range Rover was accused of rear-ending a Mercedes and refusing to give the other driver his license, and providing her with fake insurance information before leaving the scene.
According to Frank Mateljan, a spokesman for the city attorney, he indicated that Brown has been charged with hit-and-run and driving without a valid license, each of which carries a maximum penalty of six months in jail. An arraignment has been scheduled for July 15 in a Van Nuys court.
Brown responded to the charges against him on Twitter. He tweeted on June 25, “It's not a hit and run if u get out the car, exchange information (who has NO DAMAGE to either cars). This is really ridiculous." He also claimed that he has a “valid drivers license" and that he gave the woman the right information. According to Brown, “she saw cameras and wanted to make a scene." Brown denied the charges against him when he said, “She contacted the cops thinking of a payday from Chris Brown when I followed the proper procedures." He also wrote a fiery tweet stating, “My lawyers will be contacting you. I will not stand for this bullying and yellow journalism!”
As of now, it is unclear whether this case would violate Brown’s probation as a result from the domestic abuse conviction involving his ex-girlfriend and singer Rihanna in 2009.
