Phillip Anthony Pandy, 33, is currently facing life in prison for an incident which left a man and his dog wounded. The man and the dog have since recovered.
On December 16, 2009, Pandy and the co-defendants in the case, Jerry Dean Cunningham, 19, Elizabeth Hernandez, 25, and Uriel Salomon Miranda, 19, drove to the victim’s home on the 8200 block of Mannix Drive. The suspects arrived shortly after midnight.
Hernandez, who had worked at the victim’s home until she was fired, served as the getaway driver while Miranda was the lookout. Pandy and Cunningham entered the residence. Once inside, the suspects were met with the victim’s dog, a boxer bulldog mix.
According to the press release, “Pandy shot the dog three times in the chest. When the victim heard the shots, he confronted the two robbers and was shot in the throat.”
Pandy and Cunningham then demanded money from the victim and left with $65,000 in cash and property. After a short pursuit by LAPD officers at around 1 a.m., the suspects’ car crashed and the four were arrested, according to a statement made by the LAPD.
Deputy District Attorney Amy Ashvanian stated in the press release that the jury found Pandy “guilty of all counts, including home invasion robbery, attempted murder, cruelty to an animal, possession of a firearm by a felon and an allegation of personally discharging a firearm causing great bodily injury.”
Pandy’s sentencing will resume on June 28 before Judge Bob Bowers Jr.
In a statement released by the District Attorney’s Office, Cunningham and Miranda pleaded no contest to one count of first-degree residential robbery and admitted the principal armed and taking more than $65,000 allegations on April 5. Each was sentenced to eight years in state prison by Judge Lance Ito. On the same date, Hernandez was sentenced to seven years and eight months in state prison when she pleaded no contest to home invasion robbery and evading an officer and admitted the principal armed allegation.
