Good Samaritan Rescues Kids From Drowning
Posted by Staff on Aug 6, 2014 - 5:50:51 AM

HOLLYWOOD—A Good Samaritan came to the rescue of two children and a woman who needed assistance at the pool of the Hollywood Premiere Motel located on 5333 Hollywood Blvd. on Monday, August 4. The pool has a depth of 7.5 feet. Officials from the Los Angeles Fire Department received the call shortly after 3:34 p.m.

The female adult, 36, dressed in street clothes “went into deep water” to assist the 11 year-old boy and 12 year-old girl who were in trouble.

The Good Samaritan who just learned CPR heard screams and jumped the fence to the motel and pulled both children and the female from the pool and began resuscitation efforts until the LAFD arrived on the scene. When firefighters arrived the mother and her two children were wet, pulseless and not breathing. Neither the mother nor her children were good swimmers.

Brian Humphrey, Spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department stated, “Twenty-four  Los Angeles Firefighters and Firefighters/Paramedics under the command of Battalion Chief Thomas Ottman, swiftly rendered CPR with team care to the pulseless and non-breathing trio, with advanced life support measures continuing during ambulance transport to area hospitals, where the three were admitted in grave condition. The hospital staffs continued care in an exhaustive attempt to save the woman and children at the time LAFD personnel departed.”

The names of the victims have not yet been disclosed to the public. There was no lifeguard on duty at the pool, and it’s not known if the family were guests at the motel or visiting. The woman is a mother of four, and her two other children stayed in the shallow section of the pool. They were found unharmed by responders.
