Hikers In Distress At Runyon Canyon
Posted by Amanda Macke on Sep 30, 2013 - 5:48:44 PM

HOLLYWOOD HILLS—The Los Angeles Fire Department dispatched officials to rescue hikers in distress at Runyon Canyon Park Monday, September 30, around 3:20 p.m.

One young adult female hiker suffering from “weakness and fainting” was taken by ambulance to the local hospital, according to the LAFD Alert system. The fire department sent air and ground response teams to find the hikers in the 160-acre wilderness of Runyon Canyon.

LAFD Public Service Officer, Brian Humphrey, told the Canyon News via email that the female hiker was initially spotted at an unidentified location "approximately 25 feet down a hillside adjacent to an unspecified trail" by a LAFD helicopter.

The fire department ground-based crews then placed the woman on a stretcher and used a rope system to hoist her up 25 feet to the top of the hill around 3:47 p.m. The two male hikers, initially reported as injured, did not in fact sustain injuries and required no care from firefighters.

The female patient's chief complaint was experiencing a possible "altered consciousness prior to LAFD arrival" and was taken to a local hospital in "fair condition for a non-life threatening illness," according to Humphrey.
