An LAPD spokesperson told Canyon News that a female officer and her partner responded to the call on the 8100 block of
Gould Avenue around 8:30 a.m. when an unidentified male suspect opened fire on them, injuring the female officer in the exchange of fire.
The suspect then barricaded himself inside a home. When SWAT teams later moved in, they found the suspect dead from a gunshot wound, though it was unknown at the time if the wound was self-inflicted or the result of a shot fired by an LAPD officer. The officer's injury, which was said to be a graze to the face, was not life threatening, according to the spokesperson.
Canyon News spoke with Captain Cory Palka of the LAPD Hollywood Division who stated that the female officer was taken to Cedars-Sinai, where her condition was said to be “very good.” LAFD spokesperson Katherine Main originally reported that two additional people were taken to the hospital, but Capt. Palka said that these two individuals were the injured officer's partner, who accompanied her to the hospital by riding in the same ambulance, and an unidentified male individual who may have been involved in the original domestic dispute, though his injuries were said to be minor.
The deceased suspect's identity has not yet been revealed, but Chief Charlie Beck stated via Twitter that the injured officer was doing well so far.
“Spoke with our wounded officer,” Chief Beck said. “Thankfully, she is doing well. Please keep her and our officers in your thoughts and prayers.”
