HOLLYWOOD HILLS—On Monday, November 18, the Hollywood/Los Angeles Beautification Team, Heal the Bay and a few other organizations collaborated for the event, “A Day with a Bag.” The event allowed shoppers to pick up a free reusable bag in accordance with the law to rid Los Angeles of the single-use plastic bags as of January 1, 2014.

For the past six years, Heal the Bay held an event called “A Day Without a Bag,” where they would encourage shoppers to forgo the plastic bag, and utilize a cloth or reusable bag when they shopped. Last year’s “A Day With a Bag” event handed out 15,000 reusable bags to shoppers at various locations. According to the Heal the Bay website, there were 8,000 bags available to give out at the 2013 event. The organization has been around since 1985, with a focus on keep California’s rivers, oceans and beaches clear of pollution.

The Hollywood/Los Angeles Beautification Team have been working on fixing environmental factors within the Los Angeles/ Hollywood Area since 1992. Their next event is the Fall Community Event on Saturday, November 23 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at The Los Angeles Beautification Team’s New Urban Forestry & Youth Center on 1741 North Cherokee Avenue in Hollywood.

According to a flyer on their website, the event has activities catered towards the youth that include making bird feeders, coloring, crosswords, word searches and puzzle contests. Those expected to attend the event are recommended to register online at hbteam@labteam.org or by phone at (323) 962”“2163. A parent must be on-site with their child at all times.
