HOLLYWOOD HILLS—A man in his 20s was arrested in Hollywood Hills on Thursday, September 6 for allegedly pointing a laser at airplanes.

It is illegal to point a laser at an aircraft as it distracts and temporarily blinds pilots which can be extremely dangerous.

The Bob Hope Airport in Burbank reported to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department at 11 p.m. that flights were being hit by a laser in the Cahuenga Pass or somewhere near Universal City Walk.

A sheriff's helicopter arrived over where the laser beam was reported and the suspect proceeded to flash the laser at the chopper. Officials determined that the beam came from a rented home in the 3400 block of Bonnie Hill Drive and the suspect was arrested.

Authorities have not released the suspect's name as of press time but they have revealed he is not a California resident. The man was booked on suspicion of shining a laser at an occupied aircraft in motion and interfering with federal air travel. No one on board the helicopter or the plane were injured.
