HOLLYWOOD HILLS—Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti named Rick Jacobs, one of the top fundraisers who helped raise more than $2 million for Garcetti in the May election, as the new deputy chief of staff of operations on Tuesday, August 6.

Rick Jacobs
“Rick brings a fresh, outsider’s perspective to City Hall,” Garcetti said in a statement. “His depth of corporate, nonprofit and political experience will help us make city government work better and I’m proud to have him on our team.”

Jacobs will handle communications, external affairs, scheduling, protocol and strategic partnerships for Garcetti’s office as well as give strategic counsel.

Jacobs founded the Courage Campaign, an advocacy group behind progressive issues like same-sex marriage, and RDJ Strategic Advisors. Jacobs has served as the California chair for Howard Dean’s 2004 presidential run and started the banking and investment firm Newstar in 1991.

He will leave his current position at the Courage Campaign, but stay on the board while working with Garcetti. “I’m honored to join Mayor Garcetti’s office and work with his team to improve city services and help create jobs in Los Angeles,” Jacobs said.
