Posted by Alex Mazariegos on Jun 25, 2013 - 2:29:52 PM

HOLLYWOOD—Two Los Angeles Firefighters were injured on Sunday, June 23 while contending with a suspicious blaze at an abandoned two-story home.

The Los Angeles Fire Department was called at 8:30 am to 714 North Kenmore Avenue on Sunday to quarantine the fire, which “is presently categorized as suspicious, and remains the focus of an active LAFD investigation,” spokesman Brian Humphrey said.

“During a tenacious attack on intense flames, two Los Angeles Firefighters sustained painful first- and second-degree burns to their ears and necks,” Humphrey added, The pair were treated at Torrance Memorial Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries. The men were released shortly thereafter.

The fire erupted on the second floor and attic of the 99-year-old unfurnished house. The ordeal took 46 firefighters to contain the fire within 19 minutes. Structural damage is estimated at a loss of $100,000.

Those with information about the fire should contact the LAFD's Arson/Counter-Terrorism section at 213-893-9800.
