LOS ANGELES—Over the weekend, two freeway projects caused heavier traffic on both northbound San Diego (405) Freeway and northbound Hollywood (101) Freeway.
Delays in traffic.
The northbound 405 had an overnight closure on Friday at Santa Monica Boulevard, causing a 75 minute delay in traffic.
All six northbound lanes were narrowed down to one lane, which led cars to exit at Santa Monica Boulevard and go through the light before re-entering the freeway. The detour was necessary so new cement could be laid over large bumps at the 405’s bridge over Santa Monica Boulevard.
According to CHP officers, the lanes were not reopened until 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, which generated a back up to the South Bay area, and even more congestion in West L.A. and Culver City.
In Hollywood, roadwork began near Sunset Boulevard and resulted in two of the four nourthbound lanes to close on the 101 Freeway.
Traffic was backed up all the way to downtown Los Angeles, which also caused major delays on the northbound Harbor (101) Freeway.
