LAUREL CANYON—A five-acre fire broke out throughout the canyon hillside on Sunday, May 24, Los Angeles City Spokesman Brian Humphrey said.

The fire was "reported at 7:08 p.m. on Laurel Canyon Road, not Laurel Canyon Blvd.," the spokesman corrected.

"It was a one-acre brush fire on arrival, but it escalated to no more than five acres. The 100 firefighters on scene were able to contain the fire in less than an hour," the spokesman said.

There were no injuries due to the fire.

Humphrey stated that the fire did not threaten or damage any structures more than half a mile away.

For a brief time "firefighters were protecting structures near Utica Drive, but it proved to be non-threatening," spokesman Humphrey added.

The fire department is still investigating the cause of the incident.
