National Lemonade Day Celebrates All Around
Posted by Camille Sarabia on Aug 20, 2013 - 9:09:06 PM

LAUREL CANYON—The Laurel Canyon community gathered for brunch on Tuesday, August 20 for the celebration of National Lemonade Day.

The holiday is now a spurring national trend that is celebrated year to year.  Laurel Canyon invites its guests to indulge in a mid morning refreshment at 11 a.m. with a cool glass of lemonade with the perfect blend of a citrusy lemon, sugar, water, and ice.

Laurel Canyon's ode to celebrate lemonade on the twentieth day of the month is not alone as Hot Dog on a Stick will be celebrating National Lemonade Day by offering their regular cup size of lemonade for $1 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.  Hot Dog on a Stick, founded in Muscle Beach, CA in 1946, is known for their famous lemonade all year round including their unique original, cherry, lime, light and current blueberry flavors.

National Lemonade Day was first constructed to encourage and contribute to young entrepreneurship.  Children, at one time or another, have opened up lemonade stands with the aid of their mother's pitchers to start a business profit.  National Lemonade Day recognizes that no matter how small a lemonade stand or profit may be, it is still a business and this is the start of it in a child's life.

Each year they award children to starting out as "today's youth" and becoming "tomorrow's entrepreneurs."  According to their website, lemonadeday.org, their goal is stated as, "A strategic 14-step process that walks youth from a dream to a business plan, while teaching them the same principles required to start any big company. Inspiring kids to work hard and make a profit, they are also taught to spend some, save some and share some by giving back to their community."  So far, Lemonade Day has experienced vast growth totaling to 150,000 kids in 36 cities across the U.S.

National Lemonade Day also gives a huge contribution towards the charity of L.A. Loves Alex's Lemonade, which is in honor of pediatric cancer patients.  The organization was first started by Alexandra "Alex," a cancer patient who wanted to reach cancer children in a unique way.  She didn't survive the cancer, but her legacy lives on as L.A. Loves Alex's Lemonade lives on, has flourished by its celebrity height credit, and the symbol of lemonade all around.

7-Eleven Inc. has also joined the National Lemonade Day crew by offering their 16oz bottle of Snapple lemon daze for free for those who download a coupon online.

Other companies included in the lemonade celebration include: Red Robin, who will be serving free samples of their strawberry and lemonade blend of Freckled Lemonade, Walgreens, who will have Alex's Lemonade stands set up from August 23 to the 25 in selected areas, Auntie Annie's, who will set off their Happy Hour Fundraising event from August 20 to September 26 that includes a free pretzel voucher valid on the next visit with the purchase of a $1 lemon icon and a 21oz soda or lemonade. Applebees will provide a free glass of lemonade, and participating lemonade restaurant locations will donate their proceeds from Tuesday's lemonade sales to The Painted Turtle, a special camp for children.
