SOUTH LOS ANGELES—On Wednesday, August 29, afternoon class was out at Main Street Elementary School when nine children were hanging out across the street from the elementary.
A 100-year-old man, Preston Carter, parked his car at the curb near the children. He then claimed that he lost control of his blue Cadillac, not noticing the children behind him on the street, and hit them when he put his car in reverse driving up the curb.
Nine children and two adults were injured, four of them seriously hurt. Nearby citizens assisted those under the car by pulling them out. The four seriously injured were sent to a nearby hospital, no cases were life threatening.
