LOS ANGELES—Copper stolen form a mining facility in Hayden, Arizona, was seized at the Port of Los Angeles on Tuesday, November 13 according to U.S. border enforcement agents and the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
According to investigators, over 359 copper ingots weighing a total of 144 tons at a value of $1.25 million were seized. According to a statement released by the Arizona Department of Public Safety, authorities obtained a lead on the criminal operations as the result of a commercial traffic stop and warranted residence search.
The search and traffic stop lead to the seizure of over $300,000 worth of stolen copper, three trailer truck tractors, three semi-trailers, one fork lift, and two hand carts.
In a statement released by the Arizona DPS, Dept. Director Robert Halliday said, “This is an extremely dynamic and complicated criminal case.
