Burglary Victims Can Reclaim Stolen Items
Posted by Ivetta Babadjanian on Dec 5, 2012 - 2:46:49 PM

LOS ANGLES—The Los Angeles Police Department announced that victims of the knock-knock burglaries can claim their stolen items via the police department's website. According to authorities, the crimes occurred all over Southern California, from Riverside and San Bernardino to Los Angeles and Orange counties.

Knock-knock burglars caught on a home surveillance camera.

Dozens of arrests of gang members allegedly involved with the crimes were made by an LAPD task force. The task force used extensive surveillance and investigation in order to issue multiple search warrants at several locations of suspected fencing operations which led to the recovery of the stolen items. A fencing operation is when an individual knowingly buys stolen property in order to resell it, at times in a legitimate market.

The knock-knock burglars would allegedly ring the doorbell of a residence and if there was no response it was assumed no one was home. Then the suspects would break into the home and steal valuables such as jewelery, electronics and firearms. The burglaries usually occurred in the daytime between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Police recovered more than 11,000 items, most of which were jewelry. Approximately 70 gang members were held accountable for the crimes in September. More than 4,000 photos of the items are currently online. To view the online photographs go to https://www.dropbox.com/sh/lggehf23863x8aw/bOJf7DM1-3. or call (818) 644-8091.

Anyone who believes their property is shown in any of the photographs, they can send an email to lapdvctf@lapd.lacity.org or call (818) 644-8091. In the email or phone message, provide a brief description of the item, the item number written on the yellow tab in the photography, the name listed as the victim on your burglary report, the report number, the address where the burglary occurred, the date of the crime and a callback number.
