LOS ANGELES—On June 7, at around 1 a.m., a suspect broke into an apartment on the 6300 block of Reseda Blvd. According to the video released on the LAPD blog website, the suspect climbed the utility meter, and cut the screen of an unlocked window, and entered an apartment in which he stayed for 20 minutes while everyone was sleeping.

The suspect took a wedding ring, band, and an anniversary band with diamond rings, necklaces, and earrings. He also stole $600 in cash. The detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department are investigating whether the suspect assaulted a child who was sleeping in the apartment.

Canyon News spoke with the victim of the burglary and she gave the following statement, “On the night of June 7th, while my family and I were sleeping, my home was burglarized and an attempt was made to sexually assault my seven year old daughter. Not only was this monster in my home for over twenty minutes, but after he left he attempted to get back in, and failed.

My daughter does not know what transpired, because she never woke up, and he never finished whatever unbelievable and atrocious act he intended. Thank God. Up to this point in time, I had only heard and pictured such things, but never actually lived through them. And now I have.

I live it again and again every day, when I pass by my kids’ room, when I look at my empty jewelry box, and when I look at my sweet, innocent little girl’s face. There is no way to explain the horrifying effect it has on you as a parent. And I am one of the lucky ones; my child was miraculously unharmed. My daughter is one of the kindest, most gentle human beings I have ever known and that special spark inside of her could have been taken away forever. She could have been stripped away from her innocence. This is the video footage of the monster- he belongs in jail {http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naw9FVWwTFw}; not by our kids. Whether you have children or not, if you have any information that could possibly help us to catch this monster, I ask you to please come forward. Another child’s future and possibly life could depend on it.”

Detectives believe that the suspect committed another burglary after the first incident. The LAPD indicates that the suspect could be responsible for other burglaries that have been committed in the area in the past year.

Evidence that was gathered during the investigation, indicate to detectives that the suspect either lives in the area or had a vehicle parked nearby. The mother expressed how horrifying the incident was, and uttered that she was “one of the lucky ones” because her child was unharmed.

The suspect is described as Hispanic male, between the ages of 17 and 22, has medium build and short, neat haircut.
