Los Angeles opened the 2012-2013 season Wednesday night, and fans were eager to watch Clippers superstars Blake Griffin and Chris Paul display their talents. However, it was the play of new free agent acquisition Jamal Crawford that shined and helped the Clippers beat the Memphis Grizzlies 101-92.
Crawford came off the bench to score 29 points and hit two key shots to help his team recapture the lead after being down four entering the fourth quarter. In a rematch of Game seven of last years Western Conference Quarterfinals, the Clippers outscored the Grizzlies in the paint and converted all of Memphis’ 21 turnovers into 29 points.
Paul did his part, contributing 12 points and 12 assists, and Griffin was solid as well adding 11 points and seven rebounds. It was the bench that provided the spark though, with Eric Bledsoe giving valuable minutes by scoring 13 points and Crawford hitting key three pointers to keep the Clippers ahead in the end.
Rudy Gay, who had 25 points, and Marc Gasol, who contributed 20, paced Memphis. Zach Randolph had a solid effort for the Grizzlies as well, chipping in 15 points and 16 rebounds. The Clippers look to be the dominant team in Los Angeles as they face off against the 0-2 Lakers on Friday night in the Staples Center.
