LOS ANGELES—Officials responded to a possible hand grenade at Veterans Administration's West Los Angeles Medical Center at 1301 Wilshire Boulevard Monday, April 29.

Just before 7 a.m., a person called the police department reporting that he found a hand grenade in the bathroom. L.A. Veterans Affairs Police Department, County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad, and Los Angeles Fire Department responded immediately.

After the initial investigation, the Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad determined the grenade was a fake but it had been made to look real.

Staff in the emergency room of the medical center were evacuated immediately around 6:45 a.m. and moved to the Emergency Room Building 500.

The rest of the building remained in operation as normal during the bomb investigation.
