The crimes occurred over a course of eight miles near Western Avenue from Hollywood to South Los Angeles and began last November while the latest one took place on October 10. The suspect, known as "The Western Bandit," is reported to be active from 9:30 p.m. to 7 a.m.
The man has been described as having various ethnic backgrounds including African American, Hispanic and Middle Eastern. He is 35 to 45 years old, about 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet tall, has a stocky build and wears dark clothing most of the time. On some instances, the man was seen riding a bicycle.
The suspect has victimized people near or inside of vehicles on the street and police have stated that the man is armed and dangerous, therefore, anyone confronted by him should not resist.
The suspect is wanted for at least nine robberies including a series of 7-Eleven robberies. He also murdered the 32-year-old transgender woman, Nathan Vickers, in November 2011 as he shot her through a car window, grabbed her purse and fled the scene. He has had two other transgender victims, however, police have not found evidence indicating he is specifically targeting people based on their sexual orientation.
Anyone with information on this crime is asked to call LAPD’s West Bureau Homicide at 213-382-9470. During non-business hours or on weekends, calls should be directed to 1-877-LAPD-24-7.
