Los Angeles Sheriffs Department has heightened its security in light of the Boston Marathon explosions on Monday, April 15.
At approximately 1:19 p.m., the LASD released a statement, in which Sheriff Lee Baca stated, “While the cause of the explosions this morning at the Boston Marathon are still under investigation, our vigilance has been raised.” The LASD has heightened security in public areas including government buildings, public transit, athletic events, and shopping centers.
The LASD also indicated that their communication with other agencies, whether in the local or national level, would also be increasing.
Sheriff Baca is also encouraging members of the public to report any suspicious activity, as “the greatest deterrent to crime if often a phone call to law enforcement by a person who sees something that just doesn’t look right.”
To report a crime, contact your local Sheriff’s Station, or call (800)-222-TIPS (8477) to LA Crime Stoppers where all reports remain anonymous, or text the letters, TIPLA, plus your tip, to CRIMES (274637).
