Posted by Katherine Noland on Jan 5, 2013 - 9:24:42 PM

LOS ANGELES—In response to the December 14 shootings in Sandy Hook, on Monday, January 7 there will be increased on-campus police patrols at LAUSD schools.

In effort to alleviate stress on behalf of parents in the South Los Angeles community, the Los Angeles Police Department in coordination with LAUSD police officials, will be adding presence of officers at local schools. LAPD police and school officials plan to discuss security measures to ensure safety of students.

The LAUSD issued the following statement from their official website: “You may notice the increased presence of officers from the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles School Police at primary centers, elementary schools and middle schools in response to the recent devastating events at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. A school police officer is already assigned to every high school in the District.”

“On Monday, as students and staff return after the winter break, School Board President Mónica García, Superintendent John Deasy and Los Angeles School Police Chief Steve Zipperman plan to visit schools before the first bell to highlight increased security in the aftermath of the tragedy at Newtown.“
