LOS ANGELES—The Los Angeles Sparks started the WNBA Western Conference Semifinals on a positive note, beating the San Antonio Silver Stars 93-86 at University of Southern California’s Galen Center. Kristi Toliver had 29 points and sank two free throws with under a minute remaining to help the Sparks secure the victory.

In a wild fourth quarter, where Los Angeles went on an 11-0 run only to have the Silver Stars counter to tie the game, the Sparks collectively hit ten straight free throws to pull ahead in a game they trailed for the first three quarters. WNBA superstar Candace Parker chipped in 25 points to help the home team’s cause. Game two in the series is Saturday in San Antonio at Freeman Coliseum.
