Lake Hollywood Reservoir Reopens

HOLLYWOOD—After seven years of being closed to the public, the trail around Lake Hollywood reservoir re-opened on Thursday, April 12.

The reservoir has been a Los Angeles landmark for 90 years, but after a 2005 landslide, the city was forced to close off the area. Parts of the trail re-opened in 2009, but it has taken eight years for the reservoir to be restored back to its original condition.

Congressmen Tom LaBonge, along with the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, the Natural Resources Conservation Service and Senator Diane Feinstein created a recovery plan that cost $9.5 million.

Los Angeles residents took to Facebook to show their enthusiasm for the opening. LaBonge had the honor of lifting the ribbon to mark the opening of the trail to residents and hikers from all over the Los Angeles area were in attendance to commemorate the restoration of the historic landmark.
