LOS ANGELES—Clipper forward, Lamar Odom, is suspected of using funds from his foundation, Cathy’s Kids, to finance unrelated causes. The charity’s primary objective is generating “funds for education and awareness programs related to cancer” as well as financing under privileged inner-city kids, according to Lamar Odom’s official website.

Agencies including Charity Navigator, Better Business Bureau and the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy have reported that Odom’s charity, along with other foundations started by notable athletes, have not been completely clear regarding the way in which they handle their finances.

The charity has raised $2.2 million, but $1.3 million has been used to finance two junior league basketball programs, while also designating high salaries for Odom’s close associates.

One such associate includes secretary of the charity, Jerry DeGregorio, Odom’s long time friend and best man at his wedding. DeGregorio has received a $72,000 annual salary from the charity since its establishment.

Odom started the charity in 2004 in honor of his mother, Cathy, who passed away from colon cancer when Odom was 12 years old.

Odom’s wife, reality star, Khloe Kardashian Odom, has contributed to the foundation by selling apparel on eBay and giving “a portion of the proceeds to Lamar’s charity, ” as stated on her website.

Odom and Kardashian have yet to release statements addressing the allegations.
