Los Angeles hopes to host the Olympic Games in 2024.
LOS ANGELES—Talks about the 2024 Olympic Games has Los Angeles bidding with over 35 contenders to host the summer games.
In February, the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) sent 35 letters to the mayors of major cities that expressed interest in hosting the Olympic Games including
Los Angeles. In December, the USOC will hold a meeting to discuss potential cities in the running with the bidding starting in 2015 and voting in 2017.
It has been over a decade since a city in the
United States was host city to the Olympic Games. The last time was in
Salt Lake City during the 2002 Winter Games.
Los Angeles has hosted the Olympic Games twice, once in 1932 and again in 1984.
Every four years the world watches the best-of-the-best athletes sprint across the track, swim laps around the pool, and more. Earlier this week the torch was handed to
Tokyo as host city of the 2020 Olympic Games beating Istanbul and
Madrid in the race. Angelinos are taking to social media to petition to bring the 2024 Olympics, but will have to wait till 2015 when the bidding begins.
