LOS ANGELES—Los Angeles Lakers owner Jerry Buss was recently hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Reports indicate that the 79-year-old is suffering from an undisclosed form of cancer.

Buss has not attended any basketball games this season and kept a low profile last year with only a brief appearance in order to make a statement about former Lakers guard, Derek Fisher, being traded due to cost-cutting last March.
Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Shaquille O'Neal, Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar reportedly visited Buss at various stages ever since the condition was diagnosed sometime last year. "Dr. Jerry Buss, thinking about u & wish I could be there, get well soon. I cant wait 2 see u on 4/2/13 #LoveYou #Lakers," tweeted O'Neal on Thursday, February 14.
Buss has suffered from a number of medical setbacks over the past few years including an undisclosed surgery in August and blood clots in his leg due to excessive travel.
Buss bought the Lakers and its former home, Great Western Forum, from Jack Kent Cooke in 1979. The $67 million deal also included the Los Angeles Kings and a 13,000-acre ranch in Kern County.
The Lakers became one of the most prestigious franchises in professional sports while under Buss. The team has won a total of ten NBA championships and was valued at $900 million by Forbes.
