Project Rebrand The Los Angeles Flag

LOS ANGELES—On September 4, the city of Los Angeles celebrated a milestone as the old girl turned 232-years-old. As a present, a crew of Angelinos held a contest to design a new flag for the city.

Los Angeles was founded back on September 4, 1781, by Governor Felipe de Neve and was nicknamed the city of Angels, Angeltown, La-La-Land, becoming a haven for all dreamers around the world.

Los Angeles is popular for many things like the Hollywood stars, sun-kissed Californians”¦but unfortunately not many Angelinos know the flag waves alongside the majestic City Hall Building.

For the lucky few who recognize the flag agree it’s a bit of an eye-sore. A three-colored green, gold and red zigzag with the city seal stamped in the middle was designed by Roy E. Silent in 1931. The colors symbolized olive trees (green), orange groves (gold) and vineyards (red).

Artists are asked to submit their entries to “Project Rebrand Los Angeles: The LA Flag” at submit@laimyours.com by midnight PST on Monday, September 30.
