The Los Angeles Sparks lost to the Minnesota Lynx 94-77
MINNEAPOLIS—The Los Angeles Sparks discovered on Thursday, October 4 why the Minnesota Lynx had the WNBA’s best record during the regular season and why they are 19-1 at home this year. The Lynx got ahead early and never looked back as they disposed of the Sparks 94-77 in Game One of the Western Conference finals.

Minnesota, who led by 17 at halftime, made nine three-pointers, had four players score in double figures and got 26 points from their bench. L.A. got the usual strong performance from Candace Parker, who had 25 points and 11 rebounds, and closed the gap to ten points early in the fourth quarter after outscoring the Lynx in the third.

However, Kristi Toliver, who averaged 26 points in the playoffs coming into Thursday’s game, struggled early and was benched by head coach Carol Ross for nearly the entire third quarter. Toliver ended up with 12 points and Alana Beard chipped in with 16.

The Lynx dominated inside scoring 46 points in the paint and outrebounded the Sparks 37-25 while Maya Moore led their balanced scoring affair with 20 points. The best-of-three series moves to Los Angeles for Game Two on Sunday.
