LOS ANGELES—While life can be beautiful, it often can feel like a big rat race full of stress and frustration if we don’t all take a step back and take a break from it.
The Green Man Store seeks to accomplish this goal of rejuvenation, healing, and self-evolution with this promise: “As you open the beautiful wooden door, it is as if you have stepped into another world and indeed you have…” states the businesses’ website.

After passing behind the Green Man’s signature brown door, visitors can find an apothecary containing an elaborate collection of herbs, oils, candles, incenses, and blends. The next stop is a vast selection of ritual items, gems, statues, jewelry, and art created by local and international crafters and artists that vie for visitors’ attention.Visitors looking for something not available in the store may also request the crafters for a customized, one-of-a-kind treasure.
In addition to a retail store, visitors venturing upstairs will find services and classes being offered such as psychic readings, rituals, séances, and yoga. One of the services offered is a reiki treatment, which allows attendees to rejuvenate and heal through the use of relaxation techniques.
According to Reiki.org, Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is based on the idea that “an unseen life force energy flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's life force energy is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.”
While all classes, rituals, and workshops are open to the public, each ritual requests a donation while there is a charge for each of the classes.Teaching/administering the classes are trained and experienced practitioners who offer their wisdom while remaining ethical. They are happy to address the needs of existing students while welcoming newbies.
Open since July 2010, the business acts as both a retail store and a community center says co-owner Jill Weiss. The idea for the business came about when Raven’s Flight, a store that offered similar services, closed its doors.

Weiss, who was part of the community along with Joe and Carrie, missed Raven’s Flight and realized there was a desire and need for it.Together, they decided to go into business for themselves.
The name for the store came about due to Weiss’ love of “all things leaf-shaped and to all Green Man images that she had been collecting for years.”Green Man signifies an “architectural motif -- a face composed of leaves/foliage, peeking out through the leaves, or spewing foliage -- found from China and India, all the way up through Europe, into Britain. He is "Father Nature" -- a symbol of the cycles and fertility of life.”
Those considering The Green Man Store should attend their Psychic/Metaphysical Healing Fair on Saturday, October 6, from 11 am to 7 pm, for a sampling of the different readers and healers at reduced prices.During the fair, psychic readers will offer services such as Tarot, Astrology, Mediumship, Runes, Tea Leaves, Crystals, Palm Reading, Angel and Faerie Cards and many more. Healers meanwhile will offer Reiki, Theta Healing, Past Life Regression/Ancestral Healing, Chakra Clearing and Cleansing, Shamanic Healing, Blockage Removal, Southern Conjure, Faery Healing, and more.
It’s the perfect opportunity to take a much deserved break from life's stresses!
The Green Man Store is located at 5712 Lankershim Blvd. in North Hollywood and is open Tuesdays to Saturdays 11am to 7pm and Sundays 12pm to 5pm.
