Temperatures On The Rise In SoCal
Posted by Nedda Alishahi on Jun 28, 2013 - 5:20:23 PM

LOS ANGELES—The National Weather Service has issued a warning for extreme heat waves in Southern California over the weekend. Temperatures are expected to reach 120 degrees in the deserts, 93 degrees in downtown Los Angeles, and also triple-digit temperatures in other areas of Southern California.

Weather officials are advising residents to stay out of the sun as much as possible and drink plenty of water. Drivers who expect to be in traffic over the weekend are advised to keep extra water, snacks, and prescription medications with them at all times as the rising temperatures can be dangerous.

In addition, there are many air-conditioned community centers and libraries that are used as cooling centers for individuals wanting to get out of the heat. Officials are in discussion about whether they should extend the hours of operation for some of these locations given the heat wave.

Officials are advising people to conserve as much air conditioning as possible and to try and maintain their thermostats at about 78 degrees to avoid any power outages. Small pets and children should not be kept in parked cars and small pets should be kept indoors if at all possible.
