The 4 Amigos Guitar Show
Posted by Ivetta Babadjanian on Jun 27, 2013 - 7:51:52 AM

LOS ANGELES—The 4 Amigos Guitar Shows allow thousands of people to come together to share their dedication to music in various forms.

The buy-sell-trade shows allow vendors, exhibitors, manufacturers, vintage collectors and even private guitar builders to get their own booth and showcase their product. Items that can be seen at the shows include guitars, amps, banjos, mandolins, effects, memorabilia, sound gear, drums, violins. books, parts and accessories. Attendees can also have their items appraised at the event.

Larry Briggs participated in the first national guitar show in 1978 in Dallas, Texas. He later founded what first began as the 3 Amigos in 1984 until 1988 when the fourth partner joined the team. Briggs is also the owner and president of California Guitar Shows, co-authored "Guitars Guitars Guitars" and owns used guitar store, Strings West, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

"The 4 Amigos events are still known for their smooth-running organization, tight security and the abundance of foreign and domestic buyers. Since founding the Texas Guitar Shows, the 4 Amigos have pioneered almost every innovation in the guitar show business," as stated on the company's website.

Celebrities and well-known musicians are known for attending many of the events including Billy Gibbons, Howard Leese and members of Guns N' Roses. "You never know who is going to show up at our shows," said Briggs. "It's a matter of mixing professionals and those who are just doing it for themselves. It gives people the chance to rub elbows with everyone in the business."

After 29 years and over 170 shows, Briggs still enjoys going to each event and being able to interact with everyone involved. "It's great to just talk to people who have a similar passion and to be around the rare models you might only get to see once a year," said Briggs.

The 4 Amigos have shows in Southern California, Chicago, Nashville and Arlington, Texas. Their Texas show remains the world's largest consumer guitar event. The shows are also the only events co-sponsored by Vintage Guitar Magazine.

The upcoming shows in California are on Saturday, July 13 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, July 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Glendale Civic Auditorium. Attendees can lease a 10' by 10' booth for $425 or a 10' by 20' booth for $575 for the event.
