TEMPE—UCLA improved their record to 6-2 overall and 3-2 in the Pac-12 South after beating Arizona State 45-43 on Bruin kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn’s 33-yard field goal as time expired on Saturday. The Bruins remain a contender for the Pac-12 Championship with the victory tying them with the Sun Devils (5-3, 3-2) for second place behind USC (6-2, 4-2).

Leading 21-17 at halftime, the Bruins traded scores with the Sun Devils until UCLA took a nine point lead halfway through the fourth quarter. UCLA couldn’t hold down the home team as ASU came back from the 42-33 deficit, scoring ten quick points. The Sun Devils took the lead at 43-42 when quarterback Taylor Kelly found D.J. Foster for a 7-yard touchdown pass.
Freshman quarterback Brett Hundley grew up in a hurry for the Bruins. He marched his team down the field in the last minute, completing four passes to set up Fairbairn’s game winner. Hundley was very efficient on the day, completing 19 of 29 passes for 274 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Two of his TD passes were caught by Bruin wide receiver Damien Thigpen, who finished with 92 receiving yards. Jonathan Franklin led the ground attack for Bruins with 164 rushing yards, leaving him with only 20 yards left to break the UCLA career rushing record.
