Posted by Helya Askari on May 8, 2013 - 5:24:25 AM

LOS ANGELES—USC announced Thursday, May 2 that Former CIA director David Petraeus, will join its faculty starting July 1.

Petraeus, 60, who was commander of troops in Afghanistan and Iraq, earned his undergraduate degree from West Point before attaining his doctorate from Woodrow Wilson school of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University.

The CIA director was appointed to the position by President Obama in September 2011, but was forced to resign last November after a FBI investigation revealed an extramarital affair between Petraeus and his biographer, Paula Broadwell.

USC has coveted Petraeus with the title of judge wonder professor; a position named after the university's founder and commonly held by prominent faculty members.

The four star general will be teaching and taking part in seminars pertaining to various subjects including international relations, information technology and government.

In a statement released on Thursday, May 2 Petraeus states, "I am very grateful to have the opportunity to be part of a great university that prides academic excellence, that is doing cutting-edge research in areas of enormous importance to our country.”

This is not the first teaching position that Petraeus has taken, as he recently accepted a job as a visiting faculty member at the University of New York.
