Violence Erupts At Pre-BET Award Party

A man was killed at an unofficial pre-BET awards party.
LOS FELIZ—One person was killed and four people were injured after violence erupted in an unofficial pre-BET awards party. According to the LAPD blog, a 33-year-old man, Lavell L. Smith died as a result of gun-shooting.
The LAPD responded to an incident around 5:20 a.m., on June 29 at the 1100 block of
N. Vermont Avenue, where they found a victim suffering from multiple gun-shot wounds.
Los Angeles paramedics responded to the incident, and transported the victim to the hospital, who later died from injuries sustained. The suspect is still at large. The suspect is described as black male, with black hair, between the age of 20-25, with a goatee and two braids. Authorities suspect the shooting could be gang related, as the case is still under investigation.
BET has released an official statement, emphasizing that the party was unaffiliated with the BET Awards and unauthorized from BET. The spokesman added, "Security remains the number one priority for all official BET events and the network and all organizers will continue to maintain a safe environment for all planned activities."
