LOS FELIZ—The 20th Annual Los Feliz Village Street Fair will be held on September 7 from noon to 11 p.m. An estimated 30,000 Angelinos will flock to
Hillhurst Avenue to the block party of the year.
Canyon News spoke with Brett Sloan, CEO of Sloan Events, the event coordinator to this year's Street Fair, who talked about the buy local mentality of Los Feliz and what attendees can wait for this year's free-to-attend-event.
During the early 90s, the Los Feliz Village BID (Business Improvement District) was formed and local business owners wanted to tell patrons “Thank You” for the support by kicking-off a yearly big bash. “Strictly to promote initially the
LosFelizVillage businesses to the surrounding areas,” said Sloan.
Walking down the streets of Los Feliz, Angelinos can spot the Los Feliz BID sticker stamped on the store windows of many of the independent shops. “It’s very important since almost all of the businesses within the BID are small businesses. This gives them a big voice that they otherwise may not have,” said Sloan.
The city is a neck of the woods where
Hollywood stars, aspiring artists, and young adults nest atop the rolling hills of
Los Angeles. “Los Feliz has reasonable office lease pricing, it’s located near major arteries of
Los Angeles, it’s in a very diverse neighborhood that is affluent and well maintained, and the city council person is personally very involved in the small businesses of
LosFelizVillage,” said Sloan.
Next weekend, the extravaganza celebrates the 20th anniversary of the street fair and Angelinos will get to experience a fun-filled day visiting tent after tent of local businesses with a hand full of shopping bags and get an ear-full of live music from the best of best local musicians and bands from a mix of genres moving to the rhythm of the beat.
“A mix of fun activities for the kids, two beer, wine, spirits gardens, two stages full of entertainment surrounding 200 vendor booths, and all in the heart of open
LosFelizVillage businesses on
Hillhurst Avenue,” said Sloan.
